Bransin is one to reminisce about his younger years with web technology and 1-bit images in the 90s. With an education in audio engineering and experience working in the dwindling industry of recording music, he naturally drifted back to web development. On the side he enjoys fish keeping, composing music, and playing jazz drums on his knees.
Shawn loves organization, and is happiest when she crosses the final item off her to-do list. Her background is in radio, and in addition to her work at Surprise Highway, she is the founder and general manager of CHIRPradio.org, where she manages a group of 200 music-crazy volunteers.
At seven years old, Rob repaired his first car. At age nine, he wrote his first program on a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A, and at fourteen he taught himself to weld. It goes without saying that he likes to pursue creative projects and solve interesting problems. Rob got started in web development while a student at the University of Michigan and now continues practicing design and development in Chicago. While away from the computer Rob enjoys building custom furniture, exploring roads and new destinations via motorcycle, and walking his greyhound Fancy Anna.
Mike has enjoyed crafting websites and user experiences for nearly a decade. Mike earned a BFA in drawing and painting before getting trapped in the confines of corporate IT and later breaking free to the web world. In analog life, Mike enjoys reading, screen printing, and trying to keep up with his wife and labrador retriever.
After years of working in the political arena, including multiple presidential and state-wide campaigns, Katie made a career change and focused on the tech industry. She has worked in almost every area in the tech world, but prefers utilizing her communication and organizational skills. In her free time, she likes traveling, cheering on her favorite teams: the StL Cardinals, Mizzou Tigers and KC Chiefs, cooking and relaxing with her husband. Upon your first GoToMeeting with Katie, you’ll probably get to meet (hear) her two insane and adorable dogs.
Jason was raised on a farm in Nebraska and spent eleven years as a consultant for Procter & Gamble, Loudcloud and VMware before starting Surprise Highway in 2007. He has an amazing wife, three toddlers who can unlock his iPhone and a golden retriever. A picket fence is scheduled to be erected later this year.
Justin learned web development to aid in starting his own company one day. He grew up in Indiana but came to Chicago to attend Starter League to learn more about web application development and to meet other developers. Outside of web development he enjoys outdoor activities and water sports.
